Good to know

If you are Jewish and living in Europe, you are welcome to participate. This is a great opportunity to reflect on your life as a Jewish person living in Europe today.

You can submit your story in any European language (including Russian and Hebrew). The stories are published in their original language and with an English translation. You can submit your story with your own translation or we will use AI to translate it. We are not looking for professional entries.

Your Kaleidoscope story can cover any aspects of your life. It would be great if it includes some of the following:

  • Your relationship with the Jewish community, and how being part of the Jewish community (or not taking part) is a factor in your life.
  • Personal relationships (family, friends, romance)
  • Memories of Jewish experiences – cheder, camp, Jewish school, youth movement, student group, synagogue and community life, trips to Israel, etc..
  • Your past, your present and your future – You might want to talk about becoming an adult and the (Jewish) choices you are making for your future.
  • Why being Jewish is/isn’t important to you?
  • What do you like/dislike about being Jewish?
  • Where do you see yourself in the future? What kind of Jewish life would you like to have?
  • What is your relationship (or lack of) with Israel?

We are looking for stories that show the reality of being Jewish in Europe today, good and bad. We hope that writers will be as open as they can. You can submit your story under a pseudonym if you prefer.

Each story is unique but it also reflects this particular moment in time. There are so many different ways of being Jewish in Europe. Your Jewish story is part of the wider Jewish story, in your town, in your country, in Europe. Tell your story in your own words, in your own language.

You do not have to pay a fee for submitting, nor do we pay for the submission.

Kaleidoscope is a project of the Rothschild Foundation Hanadiv Europe
